Danting Chen, Bai-ethnicity Yunnanese, holds Bachelor’s Degrees in Architectural Engineering from Tongji University and Berlin University of Applied Sciences; MFA in Directing from the American Film Institute (AFI) in Los Angeles. 

Her short film BEHAVIOR EXPOSURE was featured in 2014 Shanghai Biennale. In 2015, she animated for Disney Research China. From 2016 to 2024, based in Berlin, Germany, she  wrote and directed narrative shorts in different countries in Europe with a strong focus on immigration. Among them FAMILY TRIP (Italy) and THE NECESSITY OF IT (Germany, Greece) screened at Oscar® and CSA® qualifying festivals worldwide.

Shortlisted for Asian Film Awards Academy International Film Camp 2025 and Director Elevation Program initiated by Cherokee Films and Amazon MGM Studios, her work explores themes of women, LGBTQIA+, family dynamics, social dilemmas and beyond.
